Financing the 2-yr extention

Open Europe analysts calculate that a 2-yr extention of the programme will require EURO 28.5 bl.
Chech this also.
Their conclusion:
Overall then, its hard to see how the gap will be filled without some larger decision being taken over the future of Greece in the eurozone.

Social security

Social Security is mainly a system in which each generation pays for the previous generation’s retirement, in the expectation that it will receive the same treatment from the next generation

Οι ώριμοι άνθρωποι όταν συζητούν με την συνείδησή τους – αυτήν επικαλούνται οι περισσότεροι- απαντούν στο κύριο ερώτημα: ποιες οι συνέπειες της επιλογής;
Πώς λοιπόν θα πληρωθούν οι δικαιούχοι – δημόσιοι υπάλληλοι, συνταξιούχοι, προμηθευτές, κλπ.- και οι αναγκαίες προμήθειες από το εξωτερικό όπως πετρέλαιο, φάρμακα, κλπ.;

doom and gloom for the EZ and the world

Dani Rodrik, back in June, outlined the worst case scenario for the EZ and the world economy titled "The End of the World as We Know it".
There is another Armageddon(ish) scenario out : Greece's Withdrawal from the Eurozone Could Cause Global Economic Crisis (Prognos AG for Bertelsmann Stiftung)
To be somewhat pedantic, the title is not completely accurate. The Global Crisis will come about not simply with Greece's Withdrawal, but with contagion taking its full course and Portugal, Spain , and Italy also withdraw from the EZ.... that is full collapse of the EZ and re-denomination.

Deposit transfers from the periphery

To the extent that Paul De Grauwe, Yuemei Ji are correct, those who transferred their EURO deposits, say from Greece to Germany, should not sleep all that easy because it is not certain that their EURO's will be EURO's in the case of a grexit,,,,,

Internal Devaluation: Krugman and Open Europe paper

Paul Krugman comments on an IMF working paper about the EZ Imbalances
 internal devaluation becomes even more necessary
He ends his column thus;

Food for thought – and for even more europessimism.

 I must come back on this
In the meantime, Open Europe has a paper out here about the necessity, and the necessary internal devaluation the EZ periphery countries must achieve in order to have any hope of staying in the EZ, in the case they want to.
Here's some of the exec.summary:
 Struggling countries in the eurozone – Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain (PIIGS)
– do not have the option of currency devaluation to get their economies back on track. All
adjustment must instead be achieved by nominal prices, wages and asset values falling
– so-called ‘internal devaluation’. This means that the population will have to pick up all
the slack through falling wages, fewer social benefits and less job security. Therefore,
the risk of political and social fallout – through strikes, riots or even wider political unrest
– increases massively.
 It is clear that the PIIGS need to undergo far-reaching structural reforms to improve their
labour and product markets in order to regain competitiveness. Failing this, the stronger
euro countries will be paying for the weaker ones indefinitely in a transfer union. The
alternative is a eurozone break-up.
 Spain, Italy and Ireland, in particular, can s
